The New England Patriots might be without their No.1 running back Sony Michel when they begin their training camp in July. According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Michel is currently rehabbing from foot surgery, and it remains unclear when he could be back.

The injury reportedly wasn’t serious, and the procedure, which took place in May, was more aimed towards removing the discomfort Michel had been experiencing.

Pats are expected to re-evaluate Michel’s recovery progress in the coming weeks, and based on this will make a decision about his participation in the training camp.

Michel had his fair share of injury struggles since entering the NFL in 2018 but has surprisingly managed to remain on the field. Despite undergoing multiple knee procedures in the past two years, the 25-year-old RB only missed three games. He also remained New England’s most productive running back during that time, contributing with 1,843 and 13 touchdowns.

The New England Patriots are probably not too worried about the short-term availability of Sony Michel, considering the fact that they are well-stocked on the RB position. Besides Michel, New England also has veterans James White, Rex Burkhead, and Brandon Bolden, alongside the young duo of Damien Harris and J.J. Taylor.
