New England Patriots’ running back situation looks a lot better in recent days as starter Sony Michel finally returned to practice. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Pats’ activated Michel from physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and the 25-year-old player made his training camp debut on Wednesday.

Michel underwent foot surgery in May in order to “relieve a discomfort he has been experiencing.” This was the third consecutive season that he missed time in training camp, having dealt with knee injuries in 2018 and 2019.

Sony Michel has been a valuable piece in New England’s offense since being selected in the first round of the 2018 draft. In his two seasons as a pro, Michel rushed for 1,843 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was also integral for Pats’ road to Super Bowl win in 2018, amassing 336 yards and six touchdowns during playoffs.

Michel will be part of an experienced RB core for Patriots in 2020, joining veterans James White and Rex Burkhead. New England also added former Houston Texans’ Pro Bowler Lamar Miller, who is currently working his way back from an ACL injury.
