Penalties have been the story of the season so far for Seattle Seahawks star wideout DK Metcalf. The 23-year-old player accounted for five penalties in the first two games of the season, and his recklessness on the field even prompted head coach Pete Carroll to speak up about the issue.

During a chat with reporters on Monday, Carroll said that while he appreciates Metcalf’s competitiveness, he believes the Pro Bowler “needs to calm down a little bit” and avoid making such mistakes in the future.

“He was trying a little too hard,” Carroll said via Pro Football Talk. “But he was just really working hard, I mean really working hard, and I mean, sometimes, you know, it goes too far.”

Metcalf received a taunting penalty in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts while also being flagged for a false start in the same game. Then in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans, he had two holding penalties and was called for offensive interference.

The penalties could have slid under the radar if DK Metcalf was productive on the field. However, that wasn’t the case. In the Colts game, he had four receptions for only 60 yards, although he managed to catch a touchdown pass. Against the Titans, it was an even worse outing for Metcalf, as he only had 53 yards from six catches while being targeted 11 times.

Metcalf will have a chance to bounce back on Sunday when the Seahawks travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings.
