Defender Jack Elliott played every minute of Philadelphia Union’s 13 matches in MLS this season and was an integral part of the team’s run that got them on top of Eastern Conference. This is why Union decided to award Elliott for his efforts and signed the 23-year-old Scotsman to a multi-year contract extension.

Although financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Philadelphia confirmed that Elliott’s contract now runs through 2021. The club also has a team option for 2022.

“Jack Elliott is a great example of the value of hard work and making the most of your opportunities,” – said Union’s sporting director Ernst Tanner in a statement.

“This new contract is one that he has fully earned through his consistent and reliable play on the field. He is a tremendous passer, brings a unique blend of size and skill, and processes the game at a high level. We believe Jack has a bright future ahead of him, and we are delighted to reward him with this new deal to keep him with the Union.”

Jack Elliott joined Philadelphia Union in 2017, who drafted him 77th overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in 30 games in his rookie year and had an amazing campaign which led him to being second in the Rookie of the Year voting.

Elliott was also solid in his sophomore season but lost his starting spot due to the emergence of Auston Trusty and Mark McKenzie as Union’s main center back duo. Still, after McKenzie suffered an injury in the offseason, Elliott stepped in, took the command of the defense, and never looked back.

“I’m very happy,” – Elliott said after inking the deal. “I’m delighted that I get to be with this team for a few more years and continue the hard work we’ve done already and push on from the start of the season and hopefully be very successful with the club.”
