The Philadelphia Flyers have one less restricted free-agent to worry about.

The team announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to a deal with defenseman Philippe Myers that will see him remain with the organization at least through the 2022-23 NHL season. The contract has a total value of $7.65 million, and comes with a $2.55 million annual salary for the Canadian.

The new deal represents a big success story for both parties.

Philly took a shot on Philippe Myers back in 2015, signing him as an undrafted free agent. The gamble paid off as he impressed in the developmental leagues and managed to break into the first team’s rotation by 2018-19.

Since his NHL debut, Myers played 71 games in a Flyers jersey, contributing with five goals and 13 assists for a total of 18 points.

He was also a part of Canada’s national team that won silver medals in the World Junior Championship in 2017 and World Championship in 2019.

“We’re happy to have Phil signed for the next three years,” said Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher in a statement. “He is a big (6-foot-5, 210 pounds), mobile, right-shot defenseman who progressed into a top-four role on our blue line last season. We look forward to his continued growth.”
