The Philadelphia Phillies made an impactful addition to their bullpen this week, agreeing to a deal with right-hander Archie Bradley.

According to multiple reports, Bradley will sign a one-year contract with the Phillies that will earn him around $6 million in 2021. The deal is expected to become official once the player undergoes a physical.

Bradley joins the Phillies after he split time last season between the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks. In a combined 16 appearances, the 28-year-old pitcher had a 2-0 record with a 2.95 ERA and 18 strikeouts. He also had six saves with Arizona.

Phillies badly needed bullpen depth after a disastrous performance last season. Their relievers combined for 7.06 ERA in 2020, which was the second-worst in franchise history.

The organization added several more proven arms to their bullpen in the offseason, bringing in veteran lefty Jose Alvarado in a three-way trade with the Tampa Bay Rays and making a deal with the San Francisco Giants for Sam Coonrod.

Archie Bradley made his MLB debut in 2015 with the Diamondbacks, starting for his first two seasons in the majors. He was then moved to the bullpen before the 2017 season.

Bradley’s career stats include a 23-25 record and 3.91 ERA in 255 games. He also has 425 strikeouts and 28 saves.
