The baseball world held its breath on Monday night after Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen was forced to leave a game with the San Diego Padres with a knee injury.

The veteran outfielder was involved in a rundown, and had to exit the game after feeling his knee “lock up” in the midst of the play.

McCutchen, who previously suffered an ACL injury a couple of seasons ago, reacted with an emotional tweet to Monday night’s bad fortune.

The 32-year-old outfielder was signed to a 3-year, $50 million deal by the Phillies last offseason. He has spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was traded twice in 2018, first to the San Francisco Giants and then to the New York Yankees.

McCutchen had gotten off to a solid start with his new club, hitting .256 with 10 homers and 29 RBI while setting the table for the NL East club.

McCutchen has been one of the key reasons for the Phillies’ hot start, which has them sitting in first place in their division with a 33-27 record.

The veteran outfielder will now undergo testing on his knee before a final diagnosis is reached by team doctors.
