In a move to replace Trevor Ariza, the Portland Trail Blazers secured the services of up-and-coming youngster Jaylen Adams on Monday. Earlier this season, Adams was the G-League’s MVP runner up. Representing the Wisconsin Herd, Adama averaged 21.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in 33 games.

This is the little-known Adams’ second venture into NBA basketball, having started his career with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2018-19 season. Soon after signing with the Hawks, he began representing the Erie BayHawks in the NBA G-League. His impressive performances ultimately landed him a contract with the Wisconsin Herd for the following season.

Prior to the coronavirus hiatus, Adams signed a 10-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, however, he was cut during the 2019-20 season training camp. While Portland’s move for Adams may have seemed unorthodox, it was ultimately understandable given the current circumstances with regards to the team roster.

While Trevor Ariza was expected to appear as Portland’s point guard, he opted not to appear in the NBA as it returns to action on Thursday due to wanting to spend time with his son. As such, Portland will be hoping that Adams will be the man to launch them into an unlikely playoff spot come the season restart.
