For the second week in a row, the Portland Timbers have had three of their players featured in the MLS Team of the Week. This week saw Polish striker Jaroslaw Niezgoda and American goalkeeper Steve Clark make the starting eleven, while Colombian defensive midfielder Diego Chara earned a spot on the bench.

This news comes as no surprise, seeing as all three players enjoyed strong showings during the Timbers’ 3-0 thrashing of the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday night. Niezgoda was the Timbers’ standout player with two goals, while Clark made seven saves and kept a clean sheet.

The previous week saw the Timbers defeat Los Angeles Galaxy 6-3 in what was the highest-scoring game of the season so far. Following the resounding victory in LA, striker Jeremy Ebobisse, midfielder Yimmi Chara, and Felipe Mora were featured in the Team of the Week.

While Portland’s domination of the Team of the Week contest may be impressive, it is far from unexpected. After all, the Timbers have been on an outstanding run of form, having achieved a 100% win record in their last five games. This incredible run of form sees Timbers tied on points with Seattle Sounders at the summit of the Western Conference standings, with the Sounders only hanging on to their lead by way of superior goal difference.
