Pro Bowler Matt Judon on Ravens: “I Want to Stay Here For as Long as I Play”

Most NFL players aren’t happy when their team places a franchise tag on them, but it appears that Baltimore Ravens’ defensive end Matt Judon doesn’t mind this at all.

During a recent conference call with reporters, Judon said that he isn’t worried about his contract situation and that he would like to spend his entire career in Baltimore.

“I think we have 30 more days to work out a long-term contract,” said Judon. “I’m happy to be a Raven. I want to stay here for as long as I play, but I understand that it’s a business and they kind of have a bad/good problem to have. We have a lot of young talent.”

Ravens placed a franchise tag on Judon back in March after he finished the 2019 NFL season with 59 tackles and team-high 9.5 sacks. The 27-year-old Pro Bowler didn’t complain much about the outcome at all and signed his franchise tender, worth $16.8 million, in late May.

As a matter of fact, Judon is pleased that he has been tagged as he sees it as a validation of his success. “I’m pleased to be tagged,” he said. “I feel like only a few players get to go through this in their lifetime. As much as I want stability in the future, I’m proud of where I’m at and where I came.”

The Baltimore Ravens want to keep Matt Judon with the organization, but the two sides still haven’t come close during negotiations. If there is no progress soon, Ravens will reportedly consider trading the player. Judon was most recently a target for Miami Dolphins, who were ready to part with a second-rounder for his services earlier in the year.
