Paris Saint-Germain settled on Luis Enrique as their new head coach. The former Barcelona and Spain boss was officially introduced by the club on Wednesday.

PSG only sacked last season’s head coach Christophe Galtier earlier this week, but the Ligue 1 champions were doing their diligence on his replacement way before that. The club considered a number of candidates like Thiago Motta and Julian Nagelsmann before opting for Enrique.

Speaking with reporters at his introductory press conference, Enrique promised “attacking identity” while saying his job is to “get the best out of my players individually and collectively.”

“I am committed to putting a winning team together, and I have no doubt that I will be able to do that and give PSG fans something they will like,” Enrique added.

Galtier led PSG to the national title but had a disappointing campaign in UEFA Champions League, exiting in the Round of 16. This, as well as his lack of command of the locker room, led the club to fire him after just one year in charge.

Luis Enrique has been unemployed after the end of his stint with Spain’s national team following the 2022 World Cup. He previously coached AS Roma, Celta Vigo, and Barcelona, winning a treble with Barca in 2015.

Enrique was a candidate for a number of jobs this summer and previously expressed interest in coaching in the Premier League. He was in the running for Chelsea and Tottenham vacancies, but both clubs ended up preferring other candidates.
