The New York Giants have their special teams group back together again. The team confirmed that their punter Jamie Gillan rejoined the team on Thursday after being stuck in London for several days due to visa issues.
Gillan traveled to London with the Giants for a Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers but was unable to return back to the United States with the rest of the team. The 25-year-old is a Scottish native who came to the U.S. in 2013 on a diplomatic visa since his father was a member of the Royal Air Force stationed in Maryland. He never got a work visa when he started playing in the NFL, which turned out to be an issue.
Fortunately for the Giants, Gillan managed to sort everything out in time and will now be ready to play in the upcoming game versus the Baltimore Ravens.
“He’s free. Jamie’s free,” Giants’ special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey jokingly told reporters on Thursday. “He got back last night probably around 10 o’clock, whatever it was. But he’s good. He’s ready to rock.”
Jamie Gillan entered the league in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas–Pine Bluff and spent the first three years of his career with the Cleveland Browns. He signed with the Giants in early 2022 and is looking like a steal for the franchise so far in the season.
Gillan is currently one of the league’s best punters, averaging career-high 51.0 yards per punt. Only three of his punts resulted in touchbacks, while six were placed inside 20 yards.
