Despite being set to turn 38 in January, San Jose Earthquakes striker Chris Wondolowski doesn’t intend to say goodbye to soccer just yet. Speaking with Bay Area News Group earlier this week, Wondolowski confirmed he wants to continue playing and hopes to be with the Quakes for the 2021 MLS season.

Wondolowski previously admitted he was thinking about retirement ahead of the 2020 season but later decided to “reevaluate” his decision following the coronavirus pandemic and its effects on the campaign. The “reevaluation” appears to be done now, as the MLS’ all-time leading scorer aims to add to his tally of 166 goals in the league.

“I still want to play one more year,” said Wondolowski. “It is something that I do want — to play for my fans one more time.”

While Wondolowski still hasn’t had discussions with Quakes’ brass about his intentions, it isn’t hard to see the club welcoming him with open arms. He was the team’s leading scorer last season with nine goals while also managing to dish one assist.

“I can’t help but look forward and look toward the future because it is not a sure thing,” he added.

Chris Wondolowski made his San Jose Earthquakes debut in 2005 and has since played 344 games with the club while scored 162 out of his 166 MLS goals in Quakes’ jersey. He also represented the United States on an international level 35 times and managed to score 11 goals.

The list of Wondolowski’s career achievements includes the MLS MVP award from 2012, three MLS Best XI selections, and five MLS All-Star nods.
