Entering the Week 5 game against Kansas City Chiefs, both Las Vegas Raiders and their quarterback Derek Carr were looking to put an end to an ugly losing streak at Arrowhead. Raiders failed to win a game in Kansas City in the previous eight years while Carr is 0-6 away against the Chiefs. All of that changed on Sunday afternoon.

In one of the most entertaining contests of Week 5, the Raiders claimed an unexpected 40-32 win over the Chiefs, improving to a 3-2 record and establishing themselves as a playoff contender in 2020. Chiefs, on the other hand, fell to 4-1 after suffering their first loss in almost a year.

Both teams were in “guns blazing” mode in the first half, putting up a combined 56 points and entering the halftime with 28 apiece. After a surprisingly quiet and scoreless third quarter, the Raiders and Chiefs continued to put up points on the board.

Raiders opened the fourth period with Josh Jacobs’ seven-yard rushing touchdown and followed that up with Daniel Carlson’s 43-yard field goal. Chiefs looked like they were in a good place to strike back, but Patrick Mahomes threw a bad pass on 4th&7, which was picked up by safety Jeff Heath and returned to two yards from Kansas City’s endzone.

Raiders put the ball into Jacobs’ hands once again, and the 22-year-old Alabama’s product delivered to give his team a 16-point advantage. Chiefs managed to produce a touchdown via Travis Kelce after this, but at that point, it was already too late for them to return to the game.

Derek Carr finished the game with 347 yards, three touchdown passes, and an interception. Jacobs had two TDs and 73 yards rushing, while rookie Henry Ruggs II exploded with two receptions for 118 yards and a score.

“It’s about time,” said Carr after the game. “I’ve had a lot of painful memories in this place. A lot of pain. Not this time. It feels good. The defending world champs, they’re the best team in football, and we were able to battle with them. It was a heck of a game for us. I’ve had a few kids since we won here. It’s a good feeling.”
