Veteran quarterback Derek Carr is one step closer to leaving the Las Vegas Raiders. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders allowed Carr to speak with teams interested in trading for him.

Schefter reports that the Raiders agreed on trade compensation for Carr with multiple teams and will now allow the player to pick out his next destination. Las Vegas wasn’t able to send the signal-caller to the team with the best offer, as the 31-year-old has a no-trade clause in his deal.

The full list of teams that have a deal in place with the Raiders remains under wraps, but it is believed that the New Orleans Saints and the Houston Texans are among the interested parties.

Carr received a no-trade clause ahead of the 2022 season after signing a three-year, $121.5 million contract extension. However, the extension was only partially guaranteed and gave Raiders an option to walk away from the veteran without major salary cap consequences this offseason.

The Raiders hinted they will take this route in Week 17, turning to Jarrett Stidham as a starter for the last two games. Shortly after the regular season ended, Carr confirmed he played his last game for the franchise with an emotional farewell letter posted on social media.

Derek Carr was the Raiders’ second-round pick in 2014. He earned the starting spot ahead of his rookie season and never looked back. Carr compiled a 63−79 record with the Raiders while leading the franchise to two playoff appearances in nine years. His career stats include 35,222 passing yards, 217 touchdowns, and 99 interceptions.
