The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly prepared to cut their losses on defensive end Clelin Ferrell and move 2019’s fourth overall pick before the NFL’s trade deadline.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Raiders have been talking with several teams about Ferrell in recent days and are highly motivated to do a deal. They don’t expect much in return, however, with a late Day 3 pick reportedly being the most they can get for the Clemson product.
Ferrell was a healthy scratch for the Raiders in the season opener and continued to be an afterthought since then. He only played 95 snaps on defense in six games and has just three tackles, and one QB hit to show for it in 2021.
Trading Ferrell would have benefits for Las Vegas beyond the draft picks. They would have significant salary-cap savings while also getting an additional roster spot. The team that acquires the 24-year-old, on the other hand, takes a low risk on a talented player that might benefit from the change of scenery and still emerge as a valuable player in NFL.
Clelin Ferrell played 32 games and made 26 starts so far in his NFL career. His pro stats include 68 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 19 QB hits, and two forced fumbles.
