The Los Angeles Rams have locked down their lockdown corner, Jalen Ramsey, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

Ramsey has signed a five-year extension with the team, worth $105 million. The Rams acquired the three-time Pro Bowler from the Jacksonville Jaguars in October 2019, giving the Jags two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder in exchange for the young cornerback.

The 25-year-old CB was set to become a free agent in 2021 and was set to make $13.7 million in 2020 after the Jaguars triggered his fifth-year option for 2020.

Even though Ramsey has yet to hit his stride with the Rams, netting only one interception in nine games with the team, his time in Jacksonville showed everyone that he was one of the best corners in the league, snatching nine interceptions in 51 games with the Jags and recording 45 pass defenses.

The Rams have been handing out huge deals over the last several years, but not all of them have worked out. They are already eating $32 million in dead money after getting rid of two big-money players from their offense, running back Todd Gurley and wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who are now with the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans respectively.

General manager Les Snead knew that he had to sign Ramsey to a long-term deal after giving up so many picks to get him. It will be interesting to see if his short-term strategy of signing bigtime players will get them to a Super Bowl or end up backfiring over time.
