The New York Jets are doing everything in their power to make their new quarterback Aaron Rodgers feel at home. The team announced on Wednesday that they are adding veteran wideout Randall Cobb, Rodgers’ former teammate, and close friend, to a one-year deal.

Cobb and Rodgers played together with the Green Bay Packers for 10 seasons on two separate occasions. This included the 2022 season, during which the two connected for 34 catches, 417 yards, and one touchdown.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Cobb’s contract with the Jets comes with $3 million in base salary. The 32-year-old player will be able to earn an additional $1 million through incentives.

Besides Cobb, the Jets have added several other former Green Bay players to ease the transition for Rodgers. The list includes wide receiver Allen Lazard, veteran backup quarterback Tim Boyle and offensive tackle Billy Turner. There is also a possibility that long-time Packers’ tight-end Mercedes Lewis will come to New York as well.

Despite his familiarity with Rodgers, Cobb isn’t expected to play a big role in the Jets’ offense, considering the team’s depth in the wide receiver position. The signing was probably made to keep Rodgers happy, provide veteran leadership in the locker room, and have an experienced player on the field for high-pressure situations.

Aside from the Packers, Randall Cobb also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans during his NFL career. He has 625 career catches for 7,585 yards and 53 touchdowns while being a Pro Bowler in 2014.
