The Texas Rangers star pitcher Jacob deGrom has been placed on his team’s 15-day injured list as he looks to recover from right elbow inflammation. DeGrom exited early twice in the past three games as a result.

General manager Chris Young confirmed that the starting pitcher underwent an MRI which showed the inflammation. He added that the team is expected to have a better idea of what to do with the player in seven to 10 days’ time.

“There’s no need to push him,” Young explained. “He came in today and felt OK, which is a positive, but given how important he is to us and our season, we’re going to play this very cautiously and see how he responds over the next several days to treatment.”

A two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, deGrom signed a $185 million, five-year contract with the Rangers in December after spending two seasons with the New York Mets that were marred by injuries.
