The Texas Rangers have reportedly reached a one-year contract agreement with outfielder David Dahl for the 2021 season, adding an intriguing young piece to their roster.

Dahl was let go by the Colorado Rockies earlier this offseason after his former club elected not to tender him a contract for the 2021 season. It was a decision that surprised some, especially considering that Dahl broke out in 2019 with a .302 batting average and 15 home runs.

It appeared, however, that the team preferred to give other young players a chance—especially after Dahl’s disappointing 2020, which saw him miss time with injury and bat only .183 in 24 games.

Dahl joins a Texas team that was one of the worst in the Majors last season and is in desperate need of offensive help. He is the favorite to be one of the starters in Texas’s outfield along with Joey Gallo.

The 26-year-old slugger will look to step into the Rangers’ lineup and serve as a piece for the team to build on as they look to move past their last place finish in the AL West last season.

The Rangers have yet to officially announce the deal, but an announcement should be coming in the next couple of days.
