Manchester United surprised many by beating Chelsea by a 1-2 final score at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night to advance to the quarter-finals of this season’s edition of the EFL Cup.

They have one man, star young forward Marcus Rashford, to thank for their victory on Wednesday.

Rashford scored two goals in the Red Devils’ triumph over Chelsea, including one ridiculous free-kick goal that will go down as one of the most impressive strikes in the history of the competition.

The 22-year-old opened the scoring for Man U with a penalty shot that was blasted past Chelsea goalie Willy Caballero in the 25th minute of the game. The Manchester native had no problems converting from the spot after winger Daniel James was fouled by Marcus Alonso in the box.

Chelsea evened the scoring in the 61st minute after a Michy Batshuayi strike that Sergio Romero could do nothing to stop.

Rashford’s more impressive goal, however, gave Man U a 1-2 advantage that they wouldn’t relinquish after the Manchester native buried an incredibly difficult 30-yard free-kick strike that Caballero could do nothing to stop.

Manchester United got a big win on Wednesday, and they will look to advance to the competition’s semi-finals when they host Colchester United FC on December 17th at Old Trafford.
