The Baltimore Ravens have signed veteran tight end Nick Boyle to a new contract on Friday. According to the team, Boyle inked a two-year extension that ties him to the organization through the 2023 NFL season.

Boyle ended the 2020 NFL season earlier than expected, suffering a knee injury in Week 10 and being forced to miss the remainder of the season. Up to that point, he had 14 receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Baltimore’s head coach John Harbaugh previously told reporters that Boyle is recovering well from the injury and should be ready for the training camp ahead of the 2021 season.

By signing Nick Boyle to an extension, the Ravens secured an important piece of their blocking game and a reliable backup tight end. But the move also gives the team some salary-cap relief.

Boyle signed a three-year, $18 million deal back in 2018 and was supposed to count around $7.8 million against the cap next season. The new contract will most likely lower that number and open possibilities for the Ravens to make other moves like extending their starting TE Mark Andrews.

Since entering the league in 2015, Boyle played 73 games (50 starts) in a Ravens jersey. He has 120 catches for 1,047 yards and four TDs.
