One thing that became obvious when watching the Baltimore Ravens at the start of the 2022 NFL season: they can’t get to the opposing quarterback. In attempts to address the glaring pass rush need, which wasn’t helped by several injuries, the Ravens signed veteran defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.

Pierre-Paul, who spent the last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, inked a one-year deal with the franchise. He is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he had 2.5 sacks, 30 tackles, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble.

The Ravens already hosted Pierre-Paul for a visit earlier this summer, but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement. It was easier this time around since Baltimore couldn’t afford to be picky.

Speaking about Pierre-Paul’s arrival, the Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh told reporters on Friday that the 33-year-old player will be on the field as soon as he’s ready.

“As soon as he’s ready, he wants to play. I know that,” said Harbaugh. “He’s not coming in here to take a lot of time to get ramped up. As soon as he looks like he’s ready to go, he’ll be out there.”

Jason Pierre-Paul spent the first eight years of his NFL career with the New York Giants. During that time, he earned one All-Pro nod and had two Pro Bowl appearances. Pierre-Paul signed with the Bucs in 2018 and went on to help them win a Super Bowl. His career stats include 603 tackles, 91.5 sacks, and 21 forced fumbles.
