Veteran running back Darren Sproles decided to postpone his retirement plans and will play out one more year with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles confirmed on social media that they have signed Sproles to a one-year deal, which will bring back the 36-year-old for his sixth season with the organization.

“We are excited to bring Darren back. It isn’t very often that you have the opportunity to add a player who has the sixth-most total yards in NFL history,” – said the Eagles in a statement. “He is the ultimate professional, and a leader on and off the field. He will add another proven talent to our running back room. His dynamic punt return skills are second to none. We can’t wait to get started next week.”

Sproles first announced his intentions to retire last summer when he said that he is walking away from professional football following the 2018 season. It looks, however, that he had a change of hearts probably caused by the fact that he only played six games last season due to various injuries.

“My heart is in Philly. That’s where I want to end my career,” – said Sproles after inking the deal. “That team, the city is like a family.”

By playing one more season, Darren Sproles has a chance not only to leave the sport with some good performance, but also to make NFL history. Sproles is currently ranked sixth in NFL history in all-purpose yards. He needs only 163 more yards, and he will surpass Hall of Famer Tim Brown for the fifth.
