For the past 15 years, Real Madrid’s defender and team captain Sergio Ramos has had countless heated duels and confrontations with Barcelona’s star forward Lionel Messi. Still, this doesn’t mean Ramos would be happy to see Messi leave Real’s fiercest rival.

Messi recently made it public that he wants to leave Barca, with Manchester City being favorites to sign him. When asked about this by reporters, Ramos said that Messi “earned the right” to decide on his future.

“It’s something that we’re not focused on, but the player has earned the right to be able to decide on his future,” said Ramos during a press conference for the Spanish national team.

Still, Ramos would prefer if Messi would stay at Camp Nou.

“Having said that, for the Spanish game and for Barca and for the rest of us, we’d like him to stay as we always want the best around,” he added.

Lionel Messi made the decision to embark on a new challenge after a disappointing 2019/20 season with Barcelona in which he frequently clashed with the front office and coaching staff. Still, his exit won’t be so simple, as he still has one year left on his contract, and Barca doesn’t want to let him walks so easily.

While at Barca, Messi played 731 games for the club and scored 634 goals. He led the club to more than 30 trophies, including 10 La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League honors.
