Luka Jovic’s nightmare debut season as a member of Real Madrid took another strange twist on Wednesday, as the Serbian striker was separated from his team after reportedly spending time in the presence of a friend who tested positive for COVID-19.

Jovic underwent a test himself and obtained a negative result, but Los Blancos asked the seldom-used forward to stay at home until he is able to provide a second negative test result.

Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer for a $68 million fee after impressing as one of the Bundesliga’s top young players.

He has yet to find much success in the Spanish capital, however, as he has found the net only twice in 25 appearances this season.

It remains to be seen whether or not Jovic will be able to rejoin his team by the end of season, which will take place next weekend. The Serbian striker has been used self only by Zinedine Zidane ever since La Liga’s return, however, so his absence wouldn’t be a huge problem for the current La Liga leaders.

Real Madrid will hope that this final development in a strange and disappointing 2019-20 for Jovic will serve as a learning experience as the young Serbian looks to improve next season.
