La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid reportedly has a “verbal agreement” with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies that will result in the Canadian star left-back moving to Santiago Bernabeu either this year or in 2025.

Davies will have just one year left on his contract with Bayern after the 2023-24 season. He has refused to sign a new deal with Bundesliga giants, and it is believed that Real’s interest played a significant part in his decision. Spanish club’s representatives have been in contact with Davies in recent months and have met with the player several times, according to a recent report by The Athletic.

Real is open to engaging in talks with Bayern in order to facilitate a move for Davies this upcoming summer if the German club is ready to accept a transfer fee below the player’s market value. If the two sides are unable to reach an agreement, Real would wait one more year and sign Davies as a free agent.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Real Madrid plucked a player away from Bayern Munich. In 2014, Real managed to land star midfielder Toni Kross on cheap because he had just one year left on his deal. Then, in 2021, Los Blancos snatched world-class defender David Alaba for free after his contract with Bayern expired.

Davies made 27 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season and has recorded one goal and three assists. His projected market value, according to Transfer Markt, is €70 million.
