Norwegian Martin Odegaard will get his chance with Real Madrid sooner than expected. Although Odegaard was set to spend the 2020/21 season on loan with Real Sociedad, the Los Blancos changed their mind and decided to recall the 21-year-old player.

Odegaard joined Sociedad on a two-year loan last summer and delivered some impressive performances finishing the season with seven goals and nine assists in 36 games. Thanks to his individual performances, the entire team benefited and managed to secure a Europa League appearance next season.

However, this also captured the attention of Real’s manager Zinedine Zidane, who used the option in Odegaard’s loan contract and got him back to Santiago Bernabeu one year earlier.

Sociedad confirmed the news on their social media.

“His goals, his football, his character, his effort, and his humility have ensured Martin will be remembered with immense affection by all the Real family,” said Sociedad in a statement.

Martin Odegaard arrived to Real Madrid in January 2015 as a 16-year-old player from Stromsgodset for a fee of around $4 million. He made his debut for Real in the same season, entering as a substitute in club’s last La Liga match.

However, Odegaard didn’t play more games for Real’s first team, instead being made available to their B team Castilla. He also spent time on loans with SC Heerenveen and Vitesse.
