American manager Jesse Marsch recently achieved great success with the Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, leading the team to a double crown in his first season at the helm. This led many to identify his as a perfect man for the United States men’s national team, and it appears that Marsch is open to the idea.

Speaking with Bleacher Report on Thursday, Marsch said that he is currently enjoying his time in Europe but that he’s “hopeful” of being at the helm of USMNT one day.

“I try not to look too much into the future, and I try just to enjoy the moment, but I would be honored and I’m very hopeful to someday coach the national team,” said Marsch.

According to Marsch, he would especially be drawn to guiding the team on World Cup 2026, which will take place in the United States.

“Coaching a national team for anyone is a big honor, but coaching the US national team would be incredible,” he added. “I was an assistant there in 2010. Coaching at the World Cup at home would be an incredible experience.”

Jesse Marsch’s chances of coaching USMNT will largely depend on the job that team’s current head coach Gregg Berhalter does in the future. While Berhalter had a shaky start, he managed to string a series of good results in the past year. However, the real test will be the qualifiers for the 2020 World Cup, which should start next year.

Before taking over Red Bull Salzburg, Marsch coached Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls and served as an assistant with RB Leipzig. He won MLS Supporters’ Shield with Red Bulls in 2015, being named MLS Coach of the Year in the same season.
