One of the top names available in the NHL trade deadline market is on the move after being traded to the San Jose Sharks.

Gustav Nyquist, the 29-year-old forward that has been part of the Red Wings´offensive attack, has been sent to the Western Conference contenders in exchange for two draft picks.

The Sharks, who are currently in second place in the tight Western Conference, added Nyquist to fortify their offensive attack and add another scoring threat.

Nyquist has put together a solid season this year, scoring 16 goals and 33 assists in 62 games with Detroit.

In exchange for Nyquist, the Red Wings will receive a second-round pick in this summer’s NHL draft as well as a third-round pick in the 2020 draft.

Detroit decided to move Nyquist in exchange for future pieces, which makes sense considering the team´s position in next-to-last place in the Eastern Conference.

As part of the deal, the Red Wings have agreed to pay 30% of Nyquist´s remaining salary for the season. This was necessary to get the deal done, due to the extremely limited cap space with which the Sharks had to work.

Nyquist will hit the free agent market this summer as an unrestricted FA.
