Washington Redskins’ quarterback Alex Smith suffered a scary leg injury last season which jeopardized his NFL career. More than six months later, Smith is still early in the recovery process, but that didn’t stop him from planning a return to the football field.

In his first interview since the injury, Smith stated that he isn’t finished with his career and intends to play in NFL again.

“That’s the plan,” – Smith told FOX5 DC’s Angie Goff. “That’s the plan. Steps. I’ve got to conquer some more steps before I get there. Learn to run again. That’s a big one. I’m already throwing. I already feel like throwing is not a problem. I feel like I can throw. But dropping, moving around, all that kind of stuff, change of direction.”

Smith also added that he is working on resuming a normal lifestyle, although he is still scheduled to wear a fixator on his leg for another month and a half. Once the fixator comes off, the 35-year-old Pro Bowler will take a next step in the rehab process which involves jogging and running.

“Believe it or not, this thing is going to save my leg, save my bone, allow me to heal and walk again and hopefully play football again,” – he added

Alex Smith was traded to Redskins during the 2018’s offseason after he spent previous five years with the Kansas City Chiefs. He ended up playing 10 games and lead the team to a 6-4 record before suffering the injury.  Smith completed 62.5 percent of his passes last year, throwing for 2,180 yards and 10 touchdowns.
