French champions and candidates for the throne, Paris Saint-Germain, were stunned by French Cup winners Rennes in the second fixture of Ligue 1. Rennes are becoming a problem for the Saints after their shocking victory in the national cup and their narrow loss at the Super Cup.

The Parisians opened the score first through Edinson Cavani in the 36th minute after a huge amateurish mistake from the home team defense, allowing Cavani to put the ball in the net. Surprisingly, that was the only thing that PSG did in the match, allowing the hosts to level the score in the 44th minute through Mbaye Niang.

At the start of the second period, Rennes overturned the score in their favor in the 48th through Romain Del Castillo, after the assist from the 16-year-old Eduardo Camavinga. PSG tried to overturn the result, but to no effect until the end of the game, which ended 2:1 for Rennes. Rennes managed to once again beat one of the richest clubs in Europe, handing them the first loss of the season in the 2nd week of the new campaign.
