Retired linebacker Gerald Hodges is looking to get back to professional football. Several media outlets confirmed on Monday that Hodges is eyeing an NFL return before the 29-year-old decided to confirm the news himself on social media.

“I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love,” wrote Hodges.

Hodges, who retired following the 2018 NFL season, also posted a video of him working out while writing, “I am beyond excited to make my return to the NFL. I truly missed the game last season. I am officially back!”

Gerald Hodges entered the league in 2013 as Minnesota Vikings’ fourth-round pick. He spent two years in Minnesota before being traded to San Francisco 49ers. Hodges had a career season in 2016 with 49ers, as he started 12 games and recorded 83 tackles, 3.0 sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

Hodges decided to leave San Francisco after his breakthrough year, which proved to be a poor decision. He ended up playing two forgettable seasons with New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals before deciding to hang his cleats.

Hodges’ career stats include 282 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
