Rob Gronkowski’s reign as WWE champion already came to an end. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ tight end lost his 24/7 champion belt on Monday after being defeated by R-Truth.

Gronkowski won the 24/7 belt during WrestleMania 36 after pinning his real-life friend Mojo Rawley. However, due to specific rules that allow anyone to challenge the current 24/7 champion at any time and any place, it was only a matter of time before someone makes an attempt to take the belt from Gronk.

R-Truth ended up being the most persistent and crafty challenger, managing to pin down Gronkowski while the 31-year-old was filming a social media video in his backyard. This was the 36th time that Truth claimed the 24/7 Champion Belt since the championship was introduced in May 2019.

Rob Gronkowski is a longtime WWE fan and has made several cameo appearances on wrestling shows in the past. After retiring following the 2018 NFL season, Gronkowski officially joined the organization and has served as WrestleMania 36 host. He was expected to have a prominent role on WWE shows in the future, but that is unlikely to happen now that Gronk returned to professional football.

Gronkowski officially unretired in April to join Buccaneers and team up again with quarterback Tom Brady.
