Robbie Keane on Coaching LA Galaxy: “I Would. Of Course, Why Not?”

If LA Galaxy find themselves in need of a head coach one day, they can count on club legend Robbie Keane to take the job.

Keane spent six seasons with Galaxy as a player, lifting three MLS Cup trophies with the club between 2011 and 2016. It appears that the former Ireland striker enjoyed his time with the organization as he would now be interested in returning to the organization in a managerial role.

“Down the line, yes absolutely,” said Keane during a recent appearance on the Kickin’ Off with Kevin Egan podcast. “LA Galaxy is a team that, as you know, I absolutely love. The people there are great. The country itself I love, my family loved it there. It’s certainly a place that means a lot to me. I’ve been there for five-and-a-half years.”

“I would. Of course, why not?,” he added.

Robbie Keane is already building his coaching reputation in Europe, where he served as an assistant manager to Mick McCarthy with Ireland’s national team. He was also an assistant to former teammate Jonathan Woodgate during his stint with English Championship side Middlesbrough.

In case Galaxy decides to give Keane a chance at the helm, he would be just the third former player in the history of the club to get the honor. Cobi Jones briefly managed the club in 2008 on an interim basis, while Curt Onalfo spent half of the season at the position before being sacked.
