Veteran forward Rodney Hood decided to explore the open market this offseason. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Hood rejected his player option with Portland Trail Blazers for 2020/21 and will become a free agent.

Hood has been out of action for almost a year, tearing his ACL back in December. Reportedly, he made a full recovery and is now ready to contribute to a team that signs him.

Despite his injury, Hood might find a strong market this offseason, especially considering the weak free agency class. The 28-year-old player is a capable defender with great shooting ability, and the teams never miss out on an opportunity to add players with this skillset.

Hood, who previously also suited up for Utah Jazz and Cleveland Cavaliers, averaged 12.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game through his six years in the NBA. In 21 games he played in the 2019/20 season, he had 11.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 49.8 from the three-point arc.

It is unlikely that Portland Trail Blazers will attempt to keep Rodney Hood as the franchise already got a similar player in Robert Covington in a deal with Houston Rockets on Monday.
