Al Nassr was defeated 4-1 by Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup on Saturday, meaning Cristiano Ronaldo will need to wait longer to win his first domestic trophy since arriving at the Saudi club. While Ronaldo opened the scoring in the first half, scoring from close range in the 44th minute, it was one-way traffic in the second half, with Al Hilal finding the back of the net four times.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Rúben Neves scored while Aleksander Mitrovic grabbed a two-goal brace to secure the victory. “We showed how good we are in the second half,” Mitrovic explained. “We had some problems in the first half and then changed in the second. We stayed calm and it feels good to get a trophy at the start of the season.”
With their second consecutive Super Cup triumph, this is Al Hilal’s fifth trophy in the competition. They remain the most successful team in the Saudi Super Cup, trailed by Al Nassr with two trophies. A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo has enjoyed a scintillating individual performance since joining Al Nassr, scoring 35 goals in the Saudi Pro League last season to set a league record.
