Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be clutch for Manchester United when it matters most. The Portuguese star scored a late goal in the UEFA Champions League clash against Villareal on Wednesday to give his club the first win in the new UCL season.

After an embarrassing loss to the Young Boys in their first match of Group F, United was expected to bounce back against Villareal. But the La Liga side proved to be an equally worthy opponent and managed to get the lead early in the second half following a scoreless first period via a goal from Paco Alcacer.

Man Utd equalized in the 60th minute thanks to the left-back Alex Telles, after which they focused on the attack even more in an effort to take all three points. Villareal managed to hold on until stoppage time, and it seemed the game would end in a draw.

Unfortunately for the Spanish club, Ronaldo managed to find the net in the last minute of stoppage time after an assist from Jesse Lingard and seal the 2-1 win for United.

Elsewhere in the UEFA Champions League, La Liga giants Barcelona offered another disappointing performance and were thrashed 0-3 by Benfica. Barca is currently riding a two-game losing streak in UCL and is yet to score a goal in the competition.

Juventus managed to beat the reigning UCL champs Chelsea, claiming a 1-0 home win. Bayern was dominant against Dynamo Kyiv and scored five goals, while Red Bull Salzburg stunned the 2020/21 Ligue 1 winners Lille.
