It looks like Kansas City Royals will have to look for a new manager in 2020 MLB season. Royals’ longtime manager Ned Yost announced on Monday that he will be retiring from baseball at the end of the season.

Yost will leave the Royals as the manager with the most wins (744) in history of the franchise. He also led the team to two consecutive World Series appearances in 2014 and 2015, managing to win one championship.

After taking the World Series, Royals failed to make it to the playoffs in the following three years and won’t be playing in the postseason in 2019 as well. According to Yost, however, the bad times are behind and Kansas City is in for a bright baseball future under the new manager from here onward.

“With the development of our young players and our returning veterans, I feel and hope the worst is behind us in this rebuilding phase of our organization,” – said Yost in a statement. “My plan all along was to get us through the rough times, then turn it over to a new manager to bring us the rest of the way. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here as your manager and will never forget the good and the hard times we had together as an organization and a fanbase.”

Ned Yost took over Kansas City Royals in 2010, taking over from Trey Hillman early in the season. Yost managed to improve the team’s record in each of his first five seasons at the helm, culminating with 4-1 win in the World Series against New York Mets in 2015.

Yost, who also spent time as Milwaukee Brewers manager between 2003 and 2008, retires with 1163 – 1277 record in the regular season and 22-9 record in the postseason.
