Benfica manager Jorge Jesus, as well as Ruben Dias himself, have hinted at the Portuguese defender’s likely transfer to Premier League giants Manchester City.

After his side’s 2-0 victory against Portuguese Primeira Liga side Moreirense, Dias appeared emotional in his post-match interview, as he explained, “I am very happy. It was a very important game for me and to be able to consecrate the game with a goal, it was very special for me. It is a special moment and I think everyone already knows why.”

This game was potentially the final game for Dias in a Benfica shirt should his transfer to Man City go through. In addition to captaining his side on the day, Dias scored the opening goal of the game.

According to several sources, Dias’ transfer would likely be a swap deal, with current Man City defender Nicolas Otamendi joining Benfica in return.

When questioned about Otamendi, Benfica boss Jesus stated his opinion clearly, “Otamendi? He is a player who has already shown his worth at FC Porto, he is a player of the Argentine national team and has always been a starter at Manchester City, he just stopped being now. If I have a choice, I want Rúben. But if I have to have Otamendi, I’m satisfied. In Portugal, he has justified all his value and Pep must not be stupid. If you want Rúben and let Otamendi come here, you should see what we all see.”
