Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane picked up a knee injury during his side’s 6-1 victory over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Tuesday. This poses a major concern for Mane and his national team Senegal, with less than two weeks to go until the World Cup kicks off.

Early in the first half Mane sprinted to press an opponent with the ball when he suddenly pulled up in apparent discomfort. This resulted in the Senegalese national being substituted for Leroy Sane in the 20th minute of play.

After initially receiving medical treatment on the pitch from Bayern’s medical staff, Mane was able to make his way off the field without assistance, applauding the Bayern fans as he departed from the locker rooms.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann stated after the game that Mane took a blow to his shin. “I think he has to go to the X-ray to see if there is something there because it is splintering easily. But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet,” Nagelsmann elaborated.

Senegal will be hoping for the swift recovery of their key player, who has played in every international game this year. Mane also scored the winning penalty for Senegal in the final of the African Cup of Nations.
