New Orleans Saints’ defensive end Trey Hendrickson is enjoying a career-season in 2020 that sees him ranked third in the NFL in sacks with 7.5 throughout the first nine weeks. However, Hendrickson believes he can do even better in the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking with NOLA.com on Monday, Hendrickson said that he aims to finish the year leading the NFL in sacks.

“The work’s not done,” said Hendrickson about his impressive first part of the season. “We’re only eight games in. I’m hungry. I don’t think anybody in a race wants to take third.”

Hendrickson is facing a tough challenge to get to the No. 1, considering he has in front of him Pro Bowler Myles Garrett and two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, who are tied on first with 9.0 sacks. But the 25-year-old player isn’t easily discouraged.

“Just getting after the quarterback, this is something that I was born to do,” he added.

Trey Hendrickson hasn’t been nearly as effective in getting to quarterback during his first three years in the league, totaling only 6.5 sacks in 30 games. But things have been different this year for the former Florida Atlantic product as he is carrying the Saints’ pass rush on his shoulders.

Hendrickson’s 7.5 sacks are first among all Saints’ players, with David Onyemata being second with 3.5 sacks less. He also leads the team in QB hits with 13 and has additional 18 tackles to show for in 2020.
