New Orleans Saints are moving on from wide receiver Cameron Meredith after just one season. During a press conference on Tuesday, Saints’ head coach Sean Payton confirmed that the team has released Meredith while signing offensive lineman Patrick Omameh in a corresponding move.

Meredith joined the Saints in 2018 on a two-year, $9.6 million deal but didn’t manage to justify the money invested in him. A knee injury limited him to just six games in the past season, and he finished the year with only nine receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown.

Considering Meredith’s injury history, which includes ACL tear that ruled him out for the entire 2017, New Orleans decided they are better off cutting their losses than hoping the 26-year-old will bounce back.

“The injury he had set him back and then some of these younger guys now have just been doing a good enough job, and it’s hard with the numbers,” – said Payton. “It’s unfortunate because he’s someone that has worked hard, he’s worked his tail off and it was going to be hard for him to catch this group of younger guys that are competing.”

Signed by Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent, Cameron Meredith had his breakthrough season in 2016 when he recorded 66 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns.
