The Seattle Seahawks have enjoyed an unprecedented run of success during head coach Pete Carroll’s tenure, including their first Super Bowl victory, and have agreed with the coach to extend his contract.

Carroll, whose Seahawks clinched a playoff spot with a 38-31 win over Kansas City on Sunday night, has led the Seahawks to a 118-85-1 regular season record since he was name head coach in 2010.

Not only has Carroll won a majority of the Seahawks’ games as their head coach, but the Seahawks have also won 4 NFC West division titles and 2 NFC Championships during his term.

Carroll’s crowning achievement as Seattle’s head coach was the Super Bowl XLVIII Trophy, when the Seahawks absokhrlry dominated the Denver Broncos 43-8 to win the title in February 2014.

Carroll’s new contract will make him Seattle’s head coach through the end of the 2021 season.

Carroll, who has also had stints as the head coach of the Patriot and Jets, as well as the USC Trojans in the college game, is the NFL’s oldest current head coach at 67 years old. He will be 70 at the end of the new contract.

The extension will reportedly raise Carroll’s salary to a hefty $11 million per year. For Seattle, however, the franchise’s unprecedented success under Pete Carroll justifies the price tag.
