The Seattle Seahawks surprised the football world on Thursday, signing oft-troubled and currently-suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon to a one-year deal for the upcoming season, keeping him in Seattle.

Gordon, who has been suspended six times since the 2013 season for various violations of the league’s personal conduct policy, is currently working to have his indefinite suspension lifted in time for the 2020 season.

The Baylor alum was signed during to the 2019 season by the Seahawks after being put on waivers by the New England Patriots, appearing in a total of 5 games, catching 7 balls for a total of 139 yards before being suspended in November.

Gordon had experienced a comeback season in 2018 with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, playing in 12 games and accumulating 41 receptions, 737 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns, his best season since 2013.

According to Gordon’s lawyer, the receiver has been working to restore commissioner Roger Goodell’s trust so that he can return to the league and factor in as one of quarterback Russell Wilson’s top receiving threats in the upcoming season.

Until Gordon’s case is resolved, he will wait before joining Seattle at its preseason training camp in preparation for the 2020 season.
