Seattle Sounders are reportedly trying to bring Canadian international forward Cyle Larin back to MLS. According to Turkish media, Sounders approached Super Lig side Besiktas in recent weeks in order to see what it would take to acquire Larin.

While Seattle made a concrete bid for the 25-year-old forward, reports say that Besiktas isn’t willing to let Larin go at the moments because they won’t be able to bring his replacement. However, the Turkish club didn’t reject the offer completely, telling the MLS side to contact them again in the January transfer window.

After a couple of disappointing seasons in Turkey, Larin has enjoyed a solid start to the 2020/21 season, scoring twice in five matches. Previously, he only had eight goals in 26 matches with Besiktas.

While Cyle Larin would be a great pickup for Seattle, it’s unclear how the club plans to work the technical aspects of his arrival. The player of Larin’s stature would require a Designated Player contract, which Sounders can’t offer at the moment, considering all of their three DP slots are occupied. Also, with the player being on the Allocation list, they would have to trade up in order to get his negotiating rights.

Larin previously played in MLS between 2015 and 2017, suiting up for Orlando City. He scored 44 goals in 89 matches with Orlando and has one MLS All-Star appearance to his name.
