The Rogers Cup in Canada is advancing towards this weekend’s final, with players securing their places further into the competition. The champion of 23 Grand Slams, Serena Williams, showed great skill on the tennis court securing her place in the third round of the Cup with little difficulty.

The 37-year-old Williams managed to beat the Belgian Elise Martens with a straight-set victory ending the match with a final score of 6-3, 6-3, once again proving she is one of the best female tennis players in the world. The Belgian had a better start in the match and break up, but Williams managed to regain initiative quickly and dominated the first set.

Williams said that she loved going out there and that feeling like her movement was great. She added that she had been working on her fitness and she felt like she was really able to shine through.

In the next phase, Williams will be facing the 24-year-old Ekaterina Yevgenyevna. This year’s Rogers Cup will come as practice for Williams as the US Open is just a few weeks away, starting on the 26th of August. This will be another attempt for Williams to equal the record 24th Grand Slam title.
