Sergio Busquets will join a long list of Barcelona stars who didn’t finish their career at Camp Nou. The La Liga giants announced earlier this week that Busquets would leave the club at the end of the 2022-23 season and continue his playing career elsewhere.

Busquets, who spent 18 years with the club and played 15 seasons in the first team, reportedly had an offer to extend his stay at Barca. However, the 34-year-old player opted not to renew his contract and will look for a new challenge in the summer.

It is still unknown where Busquets will continue his career. He is believed to have an offer from Saudi Arabia, while MLS side Inter Miami is also keen to sign him.

If he picks one of these options, Busquets will follow the path of several Barca legends who played out the twilight of their careers outside Europe. The list includes current Barca head coach Xavi Hernandez, who retired with Qatar’s Al Sadd, and Andres Iniesta, who still plays for Vissel Kobe in Japan.

Sergio Busquets made his professional debut with Barca in 2008 and has since played 719 games for the club in all competitions. He won 31 trophies with the club, including eight La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions Leagues.

Busquets also has 143 caps with Spain’s national team, having helped his country win FIFA World Cup in 2010 and UEFA European Championship in 2012.
