Sergio Ramos will join Lionel Messi on the list of departures from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2022-23 soccer season. PSG confirmed on Friday that the Spanish defender will end his stint with Ligue 1 champions after two years.

Ramos is set to leave the club as a free agent after his contract expires in June.

Ramos issued a statement on social media in which he confirmed the news.

“Thank you for two special years in which I was able to play in every tournament and give my all,” Ramos wrote on Twitter. “I will face new challenges; I will wear other colors, but first, and for the last time: ¡#AllezParis!”

Sergio Ramos joined PSG in the summer of 2021, with the club expecting that his veteran leadership and track of winning will help them make a breakthrough in the UEFA Champions League. However, the move didn’t exactly turn out the way the two sides envisioned.

Ramos dealt with injuries in his first season with the club, making only 13 appearances in all competitions. And while he was more available this past season, he didn’t quite move the needle for PSG as they got eliminated in the Round of 16 in UCL.

It is unclear what Ramos’ next move will be. There is a possibility that he will end up in MLS, although some clubs from Saudi Arabia are reportedly also interested in his services.
