Last weekend was definitely an amazing time at Wimbledon, providing tennis fans worldwide with great entertainment and many unexpected, exciting outcomes. To everyone’s surprise, on July 13, the Romanian Simona Halep managed to beat former world number one Serena Williams at the Centre Court, winning her first Wimbledon title.

The talented 27-year-old player defeated Williams in a match that lasted 56 minutes and ended with a score of 6-2. Halep showed great skill on the court and remained really calm throughout her stunning performance. Williams, on the other hand, seemed pretty uncoordinated and made many mistakes. The Romanian quickly took initiative and set her dominance on the field really early in the game, coming to a lead of 3-0 in just eight minutes. From there, she continued setting a pace so intense that Williams could not follow it. This is Halep’s second victory against Serena in 11 matches. She stopped Williams in her intention to reach a 24th Grand Slam title, equaling the record set previously by Margaret Court. Halep’s victory was widely celebrated in her country since she is the first Romanian to win at Wimbledon.

Victory at Wimbledon comes with €2.5 million worth of prize money, as well as 2,000 WTA points.
